Indications
SIZODAC® (Clozapine) is prescribed for:
Treatment-resistant schizophrenia (when other antipsychotics fail)
Schizoaffective disorder with persistent psychotic symptoms
Reducing suicidal behavior in schizophrenia & schizoaffective disorder
Dosage & Administration
Standard Dosage (As per medical advice):
Initial Dose: 12.5 mg once or twice daily, gradually increasing
Maintenance Dose: 300 mg to 450 mg daily, divided into two doses
Maximum Dose: 900 mg per day (under strict medical supervision)
Important Guidelines:
Start with a low dose & increase gradually to minimize side effects
Take with or without food, preferably at the same time daily
Regular blood monitoring required (risk of agranulocytosis)
Do not stop suddenly—gradual dose reduction required
Precautions & Warnings
Requires frequent blood tests to monitor white blood cell (WBC) count due to the risk of agranulocytosis
May cause drowsiness, dizziness & weight gain—monitor regularly
Use with caution in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis (increased risk of mortality)
Not recommended during pregnancy & breastfeeding unless prescribed
May increase blood sugar & cholesterol levels—regular health checkups advised
Avoid alcohol & sedatives—may increase sedation effects
Seek immediate medical attention if experiencing fever, sore throat, extreme fatigue, or seizures.
